Sunan National Independent Innovation Demonstration Zone (NIIDZ)

Approved in 2013, plans for the Sunan National Independent Innovation Demonstration Zone were outlined at a conference on 7 May 2014.

The demonstrator will focus on five main policy areas:
  1. Promote indigenous innovation
    1. Establish technology innovation market guidance mechanism
    2. Exert decisive action of markets in innovation resource distribution
    3. Strengthen dominant position of industrial technological innovation
    4. Further strengthen industry-university-government cooperative innovation
    5. Implement intellectual property strategy and brand strategy
  2. Promote industrial reform and improvement
    1. Complete industrial development plan
    2. Make use of Suzhou New District's trailblazer effect
    3. Emphasize industrial concentration and agglomeration
    4. Strive to build distinctive features
    5. Modern industrial systems of dislocation development
  3. Build a talent highland
    1. Attract top talent
    2. Support talent innovation ventures
    3. Strengthen institutional mechanisms for developing talent
    4. Stimulate various kinds of innovative and creative vigor in talent
  4. Deepen open cooperation
    1. Strengthen international technology exchange and industrial cooperation
    2. Actively integrate global innovation system
    3. Actively attract foreign research institutions
    4. Continuously raise international technological and economic competitiveness
  5. Promote sustainable development
    1. Strengthen construction of ecological civilization
    2. Break resource and environmental bottlenecks
    3. Raise levels of conservation and intensive use of resources
    4. Accelerate construction of green industry chains and cyclic resource use chains

Notes:
Sunan refers to the part of Jiangsu Province (pop. 79.2 million) south of the Yangtze River between Suzhou and Nanjing. The name 'Sunan' is derived from SUzhou and NANjing, the cities at the east and west ends of this corridor, which has the highest per capita GDP in the Chinese province with the highest per capita GDP (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jiangsu). Sunan covers 280,000 sq km and has a population of 33 million (2012, http://www.baike.com/wiki/%E8%8B%8F%E5%8D%97).
